African Safari

I'm thinking the ultimate expedition has to be a trip to Africa for a safari. I'm not even a camper though and my travel experience is normally just sitting at a beach resort or taking a guided-tour. I'm too young for that I realized last time - too many old (sorry) folks. I don't even know where to start finding the best expedition adventure. I want to brag that I went on a Safari, but I don't want to get bitten by mosquitoes or eaten by a lion. And actually I'm wondering if these travel expeditions are still good ways to see wildlife. I don't want a Lion Country Safari experience with only sleeping animals. Any one with experience I'd love to hear from. I'll be traveling with my brother so we can rough it a little.
